Dangers Of Dating Sites

I think the #1 danger of dating sites (should you choose to use them) is premature attachment.

Guard your heart! Dating sites are a way to prescreen your dating prospects and to get an idea about fit, how well you might click, etc. But, what you see in Q&A or email or even on the phone is not necessarily what you get. In fact, I’ve heard that most people don’t let their guard down enough for you to completely see who they are (warts and all) until a year into the relationship.

Attachment should buid over time as you learn more about who they are, and actions (not words) are the best indicator of who they really are. Be wise, guard your heart, and go slow emotionally.

This is an important principle for all types of dating–not just dating online.

But, if you are doing that then online dating sites can be great for you and can significantly improve the dating process.

I do think that you should avoid free sites and focus on pay sites like eHarmony.

Just budget it in. Free sites are littered with predators and con artists who make up personas, reel you in emotionally, and then try to take advantage of you (usually looking for money).

Don’t waste your time or energy on them.

It’s not cost effective for them to go to pay sites like eHarmony, and eHarmony is much too slow a process for them as a rule.

They just want to get in, make the pitch, get out, and move on to the next person.

eHarmony isn’t conducive to that.

Those are my two cents based on my experience.
